What is this thing called hypnosis?
AWAKEN you too THE GIANT that sleeps within your nervous system! The nervous system is both mind and body at the same time, and it knows how to enter into a natural state of incredible power. Call that state whatever you prefer: meditation, concentration, voodoo, alpha state, altered consciousness, yoga, tam-tam, daydreaming, zen, trance, hypnosis, faith, placebo, exorcism, fachirism, magic, miracle, illusion, gullibility, pretence, mesmerism, vital energy.. Call it what you want, because it has ALWAYS been part of your life! Only now science has begun to understand what the issue is. The hypnotist can teach you how to enter the state and how to use it! Good news for you!
Hypnosis is the most safe and natural approach ever used by the human being.. why? Because it's a natural and wonderful state of the nervous system, i.e. of the mind-body, the whole organism individuality. You see, despite some Hollywood movies, the reality is that nobody can force you to do something that you don't want to do, and the reason is extremely simple and plain: it's because you are always awake and in control and consciously aware. The only difference with the normal waking state is that in trance you are very concentrated on what is interesting you in that moment (the solution of some problem, or similar issues), and this is why in hypnosis you can be so effective. Nothing strange here: a mother can sleep soundly, not bothered at all by pneumatic hammers or thunderstorms, but the minimal cry of her baby will immediately awaken her. This is nothing more than human selective awareness. Did you get the trick? You will learn, simply learn the way to easily enter into the self-hypnotic state and to really use that powerful state of your nervous system.. in other words you have to train yourself with discipline and repetitions. Fortunately, the professional hypnotist can guide you in such a manner that you can develope your 'powers' very quickly, provided that you let yourself to be more experiential than analytical, more getting involved than reasoning. Here's the truth about hypnosis
Hypnosis is the hypnotic state, that is a natural state of the mind. Hypnosis occurrs naturally (e.g. when reading a very interesting book, or watching a beautiful movie..): we are so concentrated on some thing, that one thing, that all the other stimuli become irrelevant, and we ignore them. We are not asleep, but simply not interested. This behaviour has a neurological reason: infact the brain has continuous electrical activity, and electrical brain waves have different frequencies. During the waking state, waves are faster, more frequent, and we see the person very active. During the hypnotic state, these waves become slower, and so we can see that person now still, daydreaming, wandering within his mind, with fixed eyes, detached from the external reality, or, on the contrary, we also can see him very concentrated on some thought/action (there can be a great deal of activities in this case, but the person seems to act without consciousness, like the car driver that finds himself in front of his home having no memory about the trip). During sleep and night dreaming, the waves becomes even more slower, so hypnosis is very different from sleep, because in trance you are always consciously aware. Hypnosis can be seen as a tool that makes us able to do some work on the mind-body, and the ability to induce this state is very useful 'per se', because that ability can convince everyone (at an experiential level) about the reality of the state, and so makes the person ready to become a potential user of this phenomenon. Hypnosis can momentarily relax the body and/or the mind, and this is another added (and inexpensive) benefit. Finally, hypnosis can train the brain for certain activities, and so can facilitate every therapeutical work. Copyright (C) Alberto Torelli.
The believer will be saved!
Let me explain why. "Donkeys don't fly!". This is a belief, grown from personal life experience. And if I try to fight against it, I will lose. And because of it, that guy, seeing another donkey (never seen before), will have the expectancy that even that new donkey will not fly. The belief comes from past experiences, and the expectancy spreads these beliefs over the present and the future. So, sad to say, if one is lucky and has a good childhood, he will form beautiful beliefs and will expect a bright future, and will have more success, even if he is a poor man; otherwise he will have a life of more failures. So, happy to say, what is really important is not what we are, but what we think we are. Therefore, we don't need to change people but only their ideas. A wrong belief or expectancy (here 'wrong' means simply 'not useful') is a great problem because it's wrong and because it's considered true. These two, beliefs and expectancies, seem to govern our behaviour, and a third thing, hypnosis, seems able to change them. Well, within this triangle (where every vertex goes toward the other two) many wonderful things can happen. Therefore, you, my dear believer, prepare yourself for a new, happier life!
